Sebastian Wandl - aka Wandal - was born in Munich in 1985. He was fascinated by colors and shapes from a very early age. His youth was influenced by skate and Hip Hop culture. Obsessed by graffiti, Sebastian started his career as an artist with a spray can. After studying art in Munich, he reoriented his focus to painting and illustration
His works can also be found on large murals. Wandal's works are created with great attention to detail and bear witness to his long creative dialog with the medium of drawing. He has a strong command of line which allows his work to effortlessly flit between photorealism and expressive freedom, as seen with his recent series, “Nature View”. Wandal is an optimistic and free spirit. His art looks to tell stories about current times and bears witness to a great deal of curiosity and a precise power of observation. His interest in people, politics and love of the environment, is also clearly seen in his work; as is his obsession with recording the nature he sees around him on his travels.
The artwork Anastasia is a part of 'Nature's View' is a series of oil on canvas works that combines his love for nature with his interest in portrait painting. The viewer is captured through a focus on the eyes, the view from which is employed in conjunction with floral patterning that further abstracts the portrait. Wandal reminds everyone to take moments for themselves, to think about the inner world and environment and similarly essential topics.
